Assessment Tool: Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST)

Complete all three steps using current measurements. If BMI cannot be obtained, use mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) as a proxy per BAPEN guidelines. Repeat screening per local policy.

Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST)

A three-step nutritional risk screen applicable to all adults in any clinical setting. Developed by the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN). Total score 0–4+. If BMI cannot be measured, use mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) as a proxy (MUAC < 23.5 cm suggests BMI < 20; MUAC > 32 cm suggests BMI > 30).
