Assessment Tool: Timed Up and Go (TUG)
Enter the timed result to interpret mobility level and fall risk. Combine with full clinical assessment; consider referral to physical therapy when risk is elevated.
Timed Up and Go Test (TUG)
A performance-based mobility and fall-risk screen. The clinician times the patient completing a standardised sequence of sit-to-stand, walk, turn, and return.
Administration protocol:
- Seat the patient in a standard armchair. Patient uses their usual footwear and assistive device (if any).
- On the command "Go", start the stopwatch.
- Patient rises from the chair, walks 3 metres (10 feet) to a marked line, turns, walks back, and sits down.
- Stop timing when the patient is fully seated.
- One practice trial is permitted before scoring. Record the timed trial.

Scores ≥ 12 seconds are associated with increased fall risk. Follow-up should include full gait and balance assessment and referral to physical therapy as indicated.
